Grand Lowry Lofts will seek LEED® for Homes Gold Certification and will contribute to the overall site’s LEED® Neighborhood Development “Gold” certification. Some of the more specific green elements are listed below.

 

TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT


·         Grand Lowry Lofts is a model Transit Oriented Development (TOD), located directly adjacent to the Stamford Transportation Center.


·         Smart growth strategies promote alternatives to auto transit (eg. bicycle space storage and repair station)

 


WATER EFFICIENCY


·         Low-flow fixtures and water efficient appliances


·         High-efficiency irrigation system

 


ENERGY


·         High-performance building envelope


·         Programmable thermostats in each unit


·         Individual meters for electrical and gas utility to monitor individual unit consumption

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and has become an industry standard for buildings that promote a whole-building approach to sustainability by measuring building performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:

·         Water savings and efficiency


·         Energy efficiency


·         Construction materials and resources


·         Indoor environmental quality

 


Communities like Grand Lowry Lofts meet prerequisites for achieving LEED certification and are given points for each requirement on the checklist met. The voluntary LEED program provides third-party verification that a project like Grand Lowry Lofts meet guidelines set by the USGBC for achieving high performance and sustainability through green design, construction, operation, and maintenance.
